He is the First Spinjitzu Master's second-born son, Garmadon's younger brother, Misako's brother-in-law, and Lloyd's paternal uncle. Wu grew up learning the art of the ninja alongside his older brother, Garmadon, who was infected with evil. They fought together as a team against evil for countless years, until Garmadon's corruption completed and he was subsequently banished to the Underworld.
